Traditional Knowledge Teaching

David leads by example. His traditional practices are welcoming and instill peace and calm. David shares his experiences as an Indigenous person attending a French Catholic school to make future teachers aware of the different perspectives that may occur within a single classroom.

Impact Statement

From the TQS: (c) using the programs of study to provide opportunities for all students to develop a knowledge and understanding of, and respect for, the histories, cultures, languages, contributions, perspectives, experiences and contemporary contexts of First Nations, Métis and Inuit; and (d) supporting the learning experiences of all students by using resources that accurately reflect and demonstrate the strength and diversity of First Nations, Métis and Inuit.


The lesson plan below encourages students to seek comfort in Indigenous teachings and respect the lessons traditional FNMI knowledge can share.

The gallery below shows the value of the Guiding Voices Evaluation tool in analyzing the book Shi-shi-etko by Nicola I. Campbell as an acceptable resource to support the knowledge of First Nations and Metis peoples.
